Do you have to carry on paying ATP contributions after you turn 65?
Yes, since 2010 there has been no upper age-limit for paying ATP contributions. This means that ATP contributions have to be paid for you if you continue working after taking your pension.

Can you have ATP paid out before you become a pensioner?
No, the earliest you can have ATP paid out to you is when you retire. This also applies even if you have been awarded an early-retirement pension or no longer live in Denmark. Payment

What happens to your ATP when you die?
ATP is a lifelong pension that ceases to be paid when you die. No-one can inherit your ATP. However, each of your surviving dependants will receive DKK 50,000 (subject to 40% inheritance tax). Payment in case of death.

Must ATP be shared if you divorce?
ATP Livslang Pension is not part of the community property and can therefore not be divided.

What is the benefit of registering my cohabiting partner with ATP?

How big is the handling fee deducted by the bank for each payment?
Under the ATP banking agreement, the bank will charge DKK 19.75 per transfer, no matter which foreign country the money is transferred to. Your bank abroad may also charge a fee for receiving the money. Payment abroad.

How do I set up a pooling account for payments received from ATP?
Contact a Danish bank and ask them to set up a pooling account - what they call an 'opsamlingskonto'.

Can I opt to have my pension paid out to me as a lump sum given that I have to pay a handling fee for each transfer?
No, your pension is lifelong and is designed to supplement your income, no matter how long you live. You can however set up a pooling account ('opsamlingskonto') so you avoid monthly handling fees.
